CS5 Meets Europe

Soooooorry I've been MIA. It's a little crazy over here, but excellent. We're loving every second, and pinchin our pennies like crazy cuz everyone else must be bajillionaires here. Ie: groceries cost 3x as much as Provo... yikes. But don't get me wrong, it's gorgeous and fun and different and I am making friends with people from all over the world, and I love it. :) Here's some quick highlights from our time here... I've been photoshopping some of my faves:

Notre Dame, Paris

The Louvre... we found this on accident! We were just wandering
around Paris and saw this massive, sprawling building and decided to wander over there.
Lo and behold, it was the Louvre! Happy discovery :)

In a park just past the Louvre

You know this one!

Probably my favorite part of the Paris trip-- drawing the Nike of Samothrace!

So gorgeous.

The Palace of Versailles...

Eiffel Tower Round 2

A night in with yummy French pastry desserts

Back in Geneva-- with the Jet d'Eau

You can see the Jet d'Eau in the back if you look closely

Biking around Lake Geneve

LDS Temple in Bern!

Well, those are some of the highlights so far. This week there is a national holiday on Thursday, so I'm taking Friday off as well and we're going with a bunch of other intern friends to Cinque Terre, Pisa, and Florence. It will be a whirlwind, but it should be fun!

As for Public Health related stuff.... well, the WHO has lived up to its reputation. It's a bureaucracy. Though a well-intentioned one, which is definitely a good thing. I really like Director General Margaret Chan, who seems to really be focused on impacting individual lives, and trying to facilitate a working relationship between top-down/bottom-up approaches. Probably my favorite part of the World Health Assembly was when, in a Q&A at a technical meeting, one of the delegates accidentally addressed her as "Director General Margaret Thatcher." Boy, was that choice moment! Everyone was in tears. :)

I hope everyone else is having great summer breaks and enjoying their internships! :)

Hey guys, I've never blogged before so have patience with me for being so incoherent with this post. Things are kinda lame in my life right now, I'm just trying to not be in a bad mood all the time from the crappy, rainy weather. But things are changing which is good. I've starting running and am trying to put on 10 pounds, so any good healthy recipe ideas would be greatly appreciated, especially from you Emily and Justin. I'll be proposing my fieldwork Thursday so hopefully I'll actually be working on that soon. I'm also slowly working on my PA school application and have a goal to have it in by June 1st, no word as of yet if that's actually going to happen. Umm... if it ever stops raining then I'll be getting into mountain biking again up at Sundance and get out my longboard as well. I'm also planning on going to Moab over Memorial Day weekend so ideas for activities are greatly welcomed, I've never been before. And just to wrap up this babbling, Kody and I did break up if you haven't heard. We were going to get engaged, had a temple date and nearly had a ring, but it just didn't feel right. So now I'm trying to establish a single life and figure out what I'm doing with myself. Can't wait for Becca's wedding reception on Friday! It's going to be awesome!! How's life for everyone else?

Goal of the week...

I will be cleaning out the MPH office fridge. It is happening slowly but surely. My biggest obstacle right now is making myself dump out the gallon of milk Justin brought for the biostats exam. I'm so excited. It's way cooler than Europe or Washington D.C. :)

Sorry, I felt like I should post something so someone did but really, I'm probably the cohort member with the most boring summer at the moment so this is what you get. Maybe I'll read a book or something...

BUT, I am super excited to go to Becca and Jessica's wedding receptions next weekend! Ben and I are wedding hopping (Allie and Em, he actually made a reference to 27 dresses). Hope to see some of you there! Congrats again to Becca and Mahonri!
